Kempton Park - Heavily armed South African police yesterday arrested more than 200 black squatters on land near Johannesburg illegally sold by an opposition party.
Police mounted a dawn raid on squatters occupying hundreds of hectares of land on the north-eastern edge of Johannesburg. Pretoria has vowed to evict thousands of poor blacks who paid the Pan-Africanist Congress for a plot on a dusty field owned by the state and private farmers.
