With a trace of spring in the air, but the weekend festival season yet to take off, the main draw this weekend is for the sports fans.

Munster take on Northampton in their final pool game as the provincial two-time Heineken Cup winners seek to make the quarter-finals again.

Traffic is likely to be extremely heavy around Thomond Park and in Limerick as fans make their way from across Munster, other parts of the country and abroad for the 8pm kickoff against the Saints.

There will also be heavier-than-usual traffic on air routes to London from Dublin airport over the weekend, with Leinster supporters making their way over to the capital for the province's clash with London Irish. Kick-off for the game in Twickenham tomorrow is at 6pm.

For racing fans, there’s a meeting at Leopardstown Racecourse on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th. Saturday’s first race is at 1pm and the last race is at 4.15pm. On Sunday, the first is off at 1.10pm and the last at 4.20pm.

In Dublin, the Holiday World show takes place at the RDS from this evening, Friday, until Sunday. The event runs until 8pm tonight and from 11am to 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Traffic is likely to be heavier than usual in the area.

We Will Rock You, the musical collaboration between Queen and writer Ben Elton, continues at the O2 nightly.

Met Éireann forecasts a good deal of dry and fairly cold weather over the weekend, but with a chance of a little rain in the north and north east on Saturday night.

There will also be light winds, and fog and low cloud in places, but clear spells in many areas.

On Sunday, there will be variable cloud cover over the country, with some areas of fog and mist. Temperatures are likely to reach 5 to 8 degrees by day in brighter areas, but it will be cold again on Sunday night, Met Éireann said.
