An RUC witness told Belfast Crown Court yesterday that, although he knew the registered owner of a certain red Vauxhall Cavalier car by sight, he had not recognised the driver then police attempted to stop the vehicle in May last year. The prosecution alleges that the car was being used by a gang of men who had carried out a savage punishment beating in the Creggan area of Derry on May 19th, 1995.

Mr Colm Moore (26), from Rathkeele Way, Creggan, is on trial for false imprisonment, causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a handgun with intent.
