Steven Feeney was the hero for Sligo Rovers in the FAI Cup third round replay at Tolka Park tonight as his extra time header sent Shelbourne packing and Rovers into the quarter-finals to meet Galway United.

Jason Byrne looked to have broken Rovers hearts when his free kick in the fourth minute of injury time restored parity after goals from Ollie Keogh and John Gaffney had given Sligo the advantage.

Michael McNamara was then sent off on the final whistle and the Sligo dream looked to be falling apart.

Sligo began the game in flying form taking the lead after just 15 minutes through Keogh before Gaffney doubled that lead just after the half hour.

Frustrated and shell shocked, worse was to follow for Shelbourne as Dave Rogers' back chat to the referee earned him his second yellow card.

Ollie Cahill restored some stability to the homeside however when he found the back of the net one minute before halftime.

The second half was evenly matched and in truth Sligo looked to have done enough to deserve the win but drama was to follow as Byrne popped up with a last gasp equaliser.

Predictably Shels took the game to Sligo in extra time and there was plenty of nervous moments for the travelling fans before and after Feeney had restored Sligo's goal advantage, but Rovers deservedly held out to advance.
