A senior engineer with the National Roads Authority was killed in a road accident while travelling to the official opening by the Taoiseach of a project he had worked on in Co Donegal.

Mr Ahern yesterday officially opened the £15 million stretch of road between Donegal town and Ballybofey. He said it was a sad occasion given the death of Mr Thomas McCormack (51), a senior project manager with the authority who died in a car crash in Co Cavan on Thursday evening.
