A man in his early 30s and a woman in her 60s have died on the roads in counties Limerick and Galway.
In Co Limerick, Trevor McCarthy (32), from Kilcornan, died in hospital after being injured in a crash on the N69.
Mr McCarthy was the only occupant of his car when it crashed near his home at Cowpark at about 1am yesterday. He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he died in the afternoon.
Gardaí at Askeaton are investigating, and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 061-601630.
Mr McCarthy is survived by his wife, Julia, and a number of young children. He was the ninth person to die on the roads in Co Limerick this year.
A 67-year-old woman was killed on a busy stretch of road near the village of Claregalway in Co Galway yesterday morning as she was walking her dog.
The local woman, whose name was being withheld until relatives were informed, was struck by a car while walking on the hard shoulder of the N17 a mile outside the village shortly after 9.30am. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to University Hospital Galway.
Members of the Garda forensic collision unit carried out a detailed examination of the scene. The N17 was closed to traffic from Claregalway to Corinthians rugby club, and traffic diversions were in place for several hours.
Last evening, a collision on the Headford road roundabout caused serious traffic delays in Galway.
