Revolving set used in Tom Murphy play stops briefly during matinee performance

The world stopped turning briefly for actors on a revolving set at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre on Saturday afternoon.

The world stopped turning briefly for actors on a revolving set at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre on Saturday afternoon.

A technical issue caused the revolving set to stop moving, about 15 minutes into a matinee showing of The House by Tom Murphy.

The packed auditorium had to be emptied as technicians worked to resolve the issue. Theatre-goers were offered free tea and coffee as they waited for the play to resume. They took their seats just over half an hour later and the play continued without a hitch.

A spokeswoman for the Abbey said the audience was good-humoured about the inconvenience. The delay caused one group of theatre-goers to miss the end of the play in order to catch their train.
