Publicly owned land in north Dublin should be developed further, rather than "developing the city in rings of suburban sprawl", a report published yesterday has recommended, writes Declan Fahy.
The report by the North Dublin Development Coalition, which aims to promote the economic and social development of north Dublin, proposes new approaches to infill development across the north Dublin and south Fingal areas.
"There are currently large tracts of land in public ownership which are now seen by local communities as being of mere nuisance value to their areas," said Mr Deiric O Broin, chief executive of the Coalition.
The report, "Consolidating North Dublin - An Environmental Investment Strategy for North Dublin", was introduced yesterday by Prof Ferdinand von Prondzynski, president of Dublin City University.
