London - About 40 per cent of Britons will develop cancer at some time in their lives, but advances in treatment could lead to the disease becoming controllable, a leading charity, the Cancer Research Campaign, said yesterday.

Mr Gordon McVie, director of the campaign, said he was confident cancer could be conquered by the second half of the century.
