Employees in Galway city are younger and more educated than the national average, a report by the Western Development Commission has found.

The report, which analyses 2006 Census data, shows that more than 25 per cent of employee catchment from Clare to Donegal resides in the Galway city area.

Commission chief executive Lisa McAllister said the data was useful in informing State agencies and other bodies about commuting patterns, regionally and locally, in the west.

“This report fills that gap and provides a much better understanding of where people live and work, as well as the type of work that people do.”
