The President, Mrs Mary McAleese, will attend a church service this morning in Dublin before the body of Garda Michael Padden is brought to his home in Belmullet, Co Mayo.

Garda Padden was one of two gardaí killed on Sunday morning when their patrol car was struck by a speeding vehicle on the Stillorgan dual carriageway.

Mourners at the removal of his body at St Paul of the Cross Church, Mount Argus, Dublin last night were told the sense of loss felt by his family and colleagues was shared by every right-thinking decent person in the State.

The removal of Garda Anthony Tighe - a father of four - will take place this evening from the St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, to Mount Argus at 7 p.m.

His funeral is scheduled to take place at the Newlands Cross Cemetery after 11 a.m. mass tomorrow.

A Book of Condolences has been opened at Donnybrook Garda Station where the gardaí were based.
