London - The last thing Britain needed was a Scottish prime minister, Mr Charles Kennedy was told yesterday - by a fellow Scot.
The Liberal Democrat leader was told to stick to campaigning north of the border during a visit to the Shropshire market town of Ludlow. Mrs Jessie Yapp, living in England since 1945, also took Mr Kennedy to task over his party's "sanctimonious" attitude.
"I don't think you could ever accuse me of that," said the Liberal Democrat leader.
Mrs Yapp was ushered through the media scrum surrounding Mr Kennedy after being loudly identified as a "real voter" by a TV reporter.
