Readymix said today it has bought Breton Precast, Breton Roecrete and Breton Scotland from CRH unit Farrans for £4.75 million sterling.

Readymix said the acquisition will add to its Finlay pre-cast division, give two production facilities in the Republic of Ireland and entry into the Scottish markets, as well as expanding its existing business in Northern Ireland.

Last week Readymix reported a 4 per cent fall in turnover to €212 million to December 2002 compared with the previous 12 month period.

Earlier today Irish construction group CRH reported operating profits in 2002 of €1,048 million, an increase of 3 per cent on the previous year.

CRH said construction in Ireland gained momentum in the second half of the year, following a sharp decline during the first six months, and finished 4 per cent down on 2001.
