Manila - Leo Echegaray, a convicted rapist and the first person to be executed in the Philippines since 1976, will be injected with three chemicals by three people at 7 a.m. today (Irish time). The first chemical will calm him, the second will put him to sleep and the last will stop his heartbeat, according to a prison officer, Mr Venancio Tesoro. Echegaray (38), a house painter, was convicted of raping his step-daughter.
