A bank machine was stolen in Co Wicklow early this morning after raiders smashed through the front of a shop.

Four raiders used a stolen four-wheel-drive to smash through the front of the Spar shop in Roundwood at about 4am. It is believed the vehicle was stolen in Co Wicklow earlier in the week.

The raiders then ripped a section of the ATM from its moorings inside the shop. The vehicle used to smash open the shop was left the scene, a Garda spokesman said.

Gardaí were alerted to the raid shortly afterwards, but no arrests have been made and no money has been recovered. The spokesman said the investigation was "at an early stage" and could not say how the raiders left the scene.
