The makeshift raft which crossed the Atlantic from Newfoundland in 63 days will set sail for France from Castletownbere, Co Cork, next Monday.
The skipper of the 18-tonne raft made from discarded materials, Mr Edward Garry, said they had planned to leave for France yesterday but were delayed by an approaching weather front. Later they would sail to India.
Because of strict quarantine regulations here their three dogs have had to stay below decks.
Mr Garry said they were confident the raft could take them anywhere they wished to go. Irish media attention on their arrival last week had led to world media interest. "It's been a wonderful experience, not only the sea journey but the fantastic interest that has been generated everywhere. We have really enjoyed our stay."
