Queen Elizabeth today had a successful operation to remove a torn cartilage from her right knee, said Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth today had a successful operation to remove a torn cartilage from her right knee, said Buckingham Palace.

She was expected to be "fully active again within a few weeks", said the palace after this morning's operation at the King Edward VII Hospital, central London.

The procedure reportedly lasted 45 minutes and followed an injury she sustained to her leg before Christmas.
