The PSNI have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man's body in Bangor Co Down last night.

The PSNI have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man's body in Bangor Co Down last night.

It is understood the 36-year-old man  man was beaten to death after being chased through a loyalist housing estate.

The body was discovered at the side of the road Owenroe Drive in the Kilcooley estate by police who were called to the area at around 11pm.

A PSNI spokesman said it appeared the man died as a result of a "serious assault".

The area has been sealed off for a forensic examination.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to contact them.

The  estate is controlled by the  Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force paramilitary organisations.
