The Fine Gael leader, Mr John Bruton, has said that, if he were still Taoiseach, republican prisoners would not have been allowed to attend the Sinn Fein ardfheis in Dublin recently.

Mr Bruton said that the Yes vote in the referendum campaigns had been going particularly well until the release. "It was a calculated gamble that was badly gambled," he said.
