London - Prince Charles and the Welsh Secretary, Mr Alun Michael, found themselves caught up in the row over the beef-on-the-bone ban yesterday when they both ate it in public.
The Prince declared the sirloin "absolutely delicious", but both men, who were attending the opening of a Welsh beef promotion campaign in Newport, Gwent, said later they were unaware they would be offered beef-on-the-bone, provision of which remains the subject of a government ban following the BSE alert.
A spokeswoman for the prince said he had not intentionally eaten the beef, which was sliced for him by TV chef James Martin.
