A pregnant Pakistani woman and her brother-in-law have been targeted in the latest racially motivated attack in south Belfast.

The man and his eight-and-a-half-months pregnant sister-in-law had retired for the night when a six-foot wooden plank was thrown through the front window of their house in the Donegall Road at about 10.50 p.m. last night.

The plank smashed a downstairs double glazed window and showered the living room area with glass, where the owners had been eating 20 minutes earlier.

Although neither of them were injured, both occupants were badly shocked by the incident.

There has been a spate of racist attacks in loyalist areas of south Belfast in recent weeks. The Donegall Road has witnessed a number of incidents, and last month a Chinese and a Ugandan family fled their homes in the Village district after their attacks on their homes on the same night.

Police and politicians have condemned the incidents and urged members of the public to help them catch those responsible.
