A 14-year-old girl who is pregnant by an older man now serving a prison sentence is to return to her foster parents, the High Court directed yesterday. The girl told Mr Justice Kelly: "I would just like a chance to get my life back together. I know the mistakes I made in the past.".

The girl was with a foster family for nine years but her behaviour deteriorated and she became involved with the older man, who has a criminal record. She became pregnant and earlier this year was placed in a high-support unit. She is due to give birth shortly. Yesterday, the Midland Health Board proposed the girl return to her foster family who were willing and anxious to have her back. It was also proposed she remain in contact with her natural mother, with whom she has an affectionate relationship.
