The State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, is carrying out a post mortem examination on the body of a man who was murdered in St Mark’s Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin at around 1 a.m. this morning.

Gardaí have not yet established a motive for killing of the 22-year-old.

It is believed that the gunman, who was alone and wearing a mask, waited behind a nearby tree for his victim to arrive home.

After parking his car in the driveway of his family home the victim was shot twice in the upper body.

The man staggered over to a grass area and collapsed.

He received some medical attention there before being taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Gardaí are carrying out house to house inquiries in the area.
