VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul urged the world's 960 million Roman Catholics to show solidarity with those less fortunate, especially the homeless, during Lent.

The Pope, speaking yesterday at his weekly general audience at the Vatican, said Lent "is the time of solidarity towards those individuals and people who find themselves in precarious situations in many parts of the world".
