U2, one of the world's most successful rock groups, has struck a deal with PolyGram, its record company, which will earn the band more than £30 million in advances.

The three-album deal, expected to be signed this week, will permit PolyGram's Island Records to issue three Best Of U2 albums. The first, including recordings from 1980 to 1990, goes on sale in November.
