THE Taoiseach ruled out ministerial intervention in the controversy surrounding the managing director of Bord na Mona, Dr Eddie O'Connor.

The Government does not believe it would be appropriate for politicians to interfere, said Mr Bruton, He added that the Government had confidence in the ability of the board to deal with whatever it faced.

Mr Bruton was replying to the Fianna Fail leader, Mr Bertie Ahern, who urged him to personally intervene to bring the difficulties in the company to a satisfactory conclusion. "Otherwise, it is heading for the High Court, which will be totally unsatisfactory for everybody involved."
