PARIS - Police in the Jura mountains in eastern France said last night they were holding a man who had admitted arson, following 13 fires in houses on one street in the small village of Moirans en Montagne, Kathryn Hone reports.

The local man is said to be close to the family whose house had been hit by the most fires, including one last month in which two people died. Baffled by the blazes, investigators had suspected high voltage electricity cables.
