Multan - Hundreds of Pakistani police troops stood guard yesterday as thousands of Shia Muslims buried the victims of what appeared to be a sectarian massacre at a mosque.

Women wailed and men wept as 11 of the dead were carried in a funeral procession and buried at the village of Karam Dad Qureshi, where unidentified gunmen killed 17 people on Monday as they were reading the Koran after their prayers, witnesses said.
