BUCHAREST - The former Romanian prime minister, Mr Petre Roman, has closed his presidential campaign with an impassioned plea to voters to oust the incumbent Ion Iliescu - delivered on the spot where both men led the 1989 anticommunist revolt. Opinion polls put Mr Iliescu in the lead.
