Robert Pires has agreed a new contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the club for the next three years, it was reported today.

The French international, scorer of Arsenal's winner in the 1-0 win over Derby that took Arsene Wenger's team to the top of the Premiership last night, and has played a major part in rejuvenating Arsenal’s title challenge.

According to the London Evening Standard, Pires is extending his present contract by one year, taking it through to May 2005.

The 29-year-old joined Arsenal from Marseille for Stg£6 million in July 2000.

This season he has been in outstanding form for the north London club, scoring 11 goals and becoming a contender for Footballer of the Year award.
