Commuters faced traffic disruption in Dublin this morning due to the closure of part of the city’s north quays following an overnight incident in which a pedestrian was seriously injured.

A 26-year-old old man was knocked down by a car at about 3.15am at Ormond Quay near the Hapenny Bridge. He was taken to the Mater hospital where he is in a serious condition.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

Gardaí closed the quays between Capel Street and O’Connell Bridge for several hours this morning for a forensic examination.

The road has since re-opened and diversions have been lifted.
