A pedestrian in her 70s has died after being struck by a car in Drogheda, Co Louth. The incident happened at about 5.30pm yesterday on Scarlet Street. The woman was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver, a woman in her 60s, was also treated in hospital. Investigating gardaí have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda Garda station on 041-9874200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111.
The woman’s death brings to nine the number of people who have died on the Republic’s roads since the start of the year. Five of the deaths occurred since Saturday.
