MEXICO CITY - Mr Bruce Harris, a Briton who runs an orphanage organisation for Mexican and Central American street children has won the prestigious Olof Palme Award, named after the murdered Swedish prime minister.

Casa Alianza orphanages in Mexico and in Guatemala City and Mr Harris himself have been shot at and abused, publicly for their work in giving the children a new start and in protecting them from murder, often by groups linked to security forces.
