The Progressive Democrat spokesperson on justice, Ms Liz O'Donnell, is asking the Minister for Justice to examine urgently the criminal justice system.
In a statement she pointed out that she questioned Ms Owen in the Dail yesterday on the number of attacks on elderly people living in isolated rural areas, on Garda evidence to link the attacks with persons unlawfully at large and on the current strength of the Garda in these areas.
She also put down questions on missing and murdered women.
"I am not satisfied that Minister Owen is fully aware of the crisis of confidence that exists in the community at these violent deaths, attacks and disappearances," she said.
