The British government today asked members of the public in Northern Ireland to comment on proposals for replacing the "11-Plus" exam system.
The exams are to be scrapped by 2008 and the Northern Ireland Office Education Minister, Mr Barry Gardiner, today urged parents to comment on a consultation document dealing with arrangements for transferring children from primary to secondary schools.
Primary schools will also be asked to give general advice to parents to assist
them and their children in deciding on their choice of post-primary school.
Under the new post primary arrangements announced last year, it is also envisaged children aged between 11 and 14 years will study a broad curriculum before choosing more specific courses.
