`Fresh from Britain" may sometimes seem like a contradiction in terms, but this touring package of three buzzy theatrical productions, supported by the British Council, promises to bring all that is young and bloodyminded from the urban cultures of England, Scotland and Wales to the Civic Theatre, Tallaght. From Glasgow, Theatre Cryptic presents Electra: Queen of Revenge, Clare Venables' souped-up, in-your-face translation of the Sophocles tragedy over live music. Techno, meanwhile, provides the soundtrack for the joyriding show, Car, which certainly got the "word of mouth" award at Edinburgh last year.
Meanwhile, from Opera Cocktail and Theatre Mwldan in Wales, Castradiva is set in Rome in 1700. There ain't nothing so confusing as a beautiful castrato singer, and it will be interesting to see how such a character is handled by mezzo-soprano Buddug Verona James, who will deliver arias by Handel and Gluck. If it's a patch on Neil Bartlett's brilliant Sarrasine a few years ago, you shouldn't miss it.
