A Palestinian child was killed and 12 other people were wounded when Israeli soldiers opened fired during a raid into the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah this evening, the head of the local hospital said.
Fourteen-year-old Abdel Hadi Hamayda was shot in the head and killed, said the doctor after earlier reports from the hospital that two children died.
Three of the wounded were in a critical condition, medical staff said. One of them was another child who was mistakenly believed to have died.
Witnesses in the battle-scarred town on the border with Egypt said that bulldozer and four tanks moved some 200 metres into autonomous Palestinian territory, destroying four shops and one house.
A bunch of children threw stones at Israeli armoured vehicles which also entered the town.
