The heated debate on Partnership for Peace, NATO and the like may soon be redundant if the Minister for Foreign Affairs, David Andrews, has his way. The Literary and Debating Society at UCG recently passed a motion that the Minister should declare war on the Isle of Man and wrote to him to that effect. The Minister replied to the auditor, Ronan Feehily as follows: "I will, of course, bring the matter to the attention of the Dail, as under the Constitution it is obligatory to have a vote in the House in order to proceed. I have urged the Minister for Defence to mobilise our defence forces, under cover of darkness of course, to ensure that we are ready should the Dail vote be positive for war. I will, of course, be calling for volunteers and have no doubt that you and your colleagues will perform their patriotic duties with great courage."
