My description of Dublin as a wine bar Sahara a few weeks ago brings a sharp rebuke from Margaret Beskri of La Cave in Dublin, a popular watering hole among wine lovers for 10 full years. Doesn't every desert have one or two oases?

La Cave has an extensive, exciting wine list, incorporating lots of interesting half bottles plus a dozen champagnes - and there are 25 wines by the glass. It's at 28 South Anne Street, Dublin 2 - phone 01679 4409, open every night for dinner and every day except Sunday for lunch - but you can also just drop in for a glass of wine.
