A bomb alert lead to the cancellation of northbound train services for a few hours this afternoon.

A bomb alert lead to the cancellation of northbound train services for a few hours this afternoon.

Gardaí at Dundalk station received a phonecall claiming bombs had been placed on the southern side of the Belfast to Dublin line.

Iarnród Eireann cancelled northbound DART, suburban and Enterprise services until it was given the all-clear by investigating gardaí.

The services have resumed but a company spokeswoman said they would be subject to delays.

The caller also said a bomb had been placed at Dunnes Stores in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

Gardaí are investigating the claim, a spokeswoman said.
