Abuja - Nigeria's electoral commission yesterday blocked a proposed alliance between two of Nigeria's three political parties by saying they could not present a joint candidate for February 27th presidential elections.

The decision is certain to anger members of the left-wing Alliance of Democracy (AD) and right-of-centre All Peoples Party (APP) which agreed an electoral pact to checkmate the ambitions of the centrist People's Democratic Party (PDP).
