The Office of the Taoiseach has written to Mr David Wright, the father of murdered LVF leader Billy Wright, inviting him to meet officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs to discuss his concerns over the murder of his son inside the Maze Prison almost two years ago.

The offer of a further meeting with officials is contained in a letter from the Taoiseach's private secretary, Mr Brendan Ward. It follows Mr David Wright's recent comments that Mr Ahern failed to respond to matters raised with the Department in June. However, Mr Wright said he was "perplexed" by the letter.

"The letter states that Mr Ahern is aware of the matters raised during my June visit" said Mr Wright. "It also states the Irish Government did not give me an undertaking to respond to my concerns. Why then did I travel to Dublin to meet them, was it simply a day trip for me on the Enterprise?"
