A quantity of mobile phones was stolen from a van on the M50 motorway in Dublin by two armed men yesterday evening.

A Garda spokesman said a van containing new mobile phones was forced to stop when a car pulled across it on the M50 near Tallaght at 8 p.m.

Two men, one armed with a handgun the other carrying a knife, commandeered the van. The raiders drove to Terenure where the driver and his assistant were released.

Nobody was injured in the incident. Gardaí say the value of the goods taken has not yet been established.
