London - Hope is in store for patients who cringe at the sight of a needle, thanks to a new painless method of giving injections developed by a British company, it emerged yesterday.

Instead of a needle, the new technology involves very fine, high-pressure jets of air to force liquid vaccine under the skin, BBC Radio 4's Today programme has reported.

The device cannot be used on patients until the manufacturers, Weston Medical, finish clinical trials next year.

Needle-free injections could also save patients from injury and infection.
