Martina Navratilova's return to action after eight years in retirement came to an end at Eastbourne today when she lost 2-6 6-2 6-2 to Daniela Hantuchova.
Navratilova (45) won the first four games of the second round match, breaking the Slovakian twice and raising hopes of a place in the third round.
But Hantuchova (19) came back fighting and won four straight games in the second set to propel her to victory.
Hantuchova now plays the winner of Iroda Tulyaganova and Amy Frazier in the third round of the Wimbledon warm-up event.
