London - A third of the world's natural resources were consumed in the period 1970-1995, according to a report published by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) yesterday.
Freshwater ecosystems are disappearing at a rate of 6 per cent per year, and have halved in number between 1970 and 1995, while marine ecosystems have dropped by 30 per cent during the same period, the WWF says.
Meanwhile, a UN meteorological expert, Mr Romen Bojkov, speaking in Geneva yesterday, said the hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica had grown to a record size, equivalent to 2 1/2 times the area of Europe.
