London - The mother of a schoolgirl murdered on a school trip to France over three years ago wept yesterday after a judge rejected her civil claim for damages against the local education authority. Mr Justice Steel said for all the "heartbreaking" features of the case, Ms Sue Dickinson (41) could not make good her case against Cornwall County Council.

Ms Dickinson's 13-year-old daughter Caroline was raped and asphyxiated in a hostel on July 18th, 1996, during a school trip to Brittany with Launceston Community College. The killer is still being hunted by French police.
