Gardai have begun a murder inquiry after the discovery of a woman’s body at Inverin, Co Galway.

Gardai have begun a murder inquiry after the discovery of a woman’s body at Inverin, Co Galway.

The body or the woman, believed to be in her twenties, was found outside a house in the village early this morning. A man was arrested for questioning in connection with her death.

He is being detained at Mill Street Garda station in Galway under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The period of detention was extended this evening.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a preliminary examination of the dead woman's body at the scene this afternoon, before it was removed for a full post mortem to University College Hospital, Galway (UCHG).

A Garda Technical Bureau team also arrived on site today to carry out an investigation.
