Harare - The British Tory spokesman Mr Francis Maude yesterday accused President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe of using state-sponsored terrorism to undermine the opposition in the run-up to elections.
"It is absolutely clear that what is going on here is a deliberate policy of state terrorism which derives directly from the head of state. It is an appalling breach of trust," Mr Maude told reporters during a 36-hour visit to Zimbabwe.
Mr Maude said he spoke to leaders of civil society and would meet the Movement for Democratic Change leader, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, but would not see any government representative.
