A motorcyclist was killed last night in a road accident in Co Tyrone, the second road death in the county in less than 24 hours.

He died when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car on the Tummery Road between Irvinestown and Dromore, said police.

His death followed that of a woman in her late 30s in Omagh who was walking along the Dromore Road between Lammy and Clanabogan shortly after 11pm on Friday night when she was struck by a car.

A female passenger in the car was injured and taken to hospital where her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

A police spokeswoman appealed for anyone in the area who may have witnessed the accident to contact them.

Despite a series of road campaigns the death toll on Northern Ireland's roads is running considerably higher than last year. The latest death was the 89th so far this year compared to 75 at the same time in 2008.
